IMPRS Studentship at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in Germany 2021

Good news! IMPRS Studentship at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen is currently open. Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen is granting PhD Studentships at the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) in ”From Molecules to Organisms” in the 2021/2022 academic session.

IMPRS Studentship at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen affords extraordinary interdisciplinary exercise across the fields of structural, molecular, cellular and developmental biology along with bioinformatics, genomics and evolutionary biology.

The academic institution’s aim is to grant the next generation of scientists with the knowledge and skills to study complex biological processes, which cannot be sufficiently understood within the bounds of single disciplines, in the framework of entire organisms.

Research topics offered to the scholars are drawn from the following traditionally separate fields:

  • Biophysics
  • Biochemistry and structural biology
  • Bioinformatics and computational biology
  • Molecular and cellular biology
  • Developmental biology and genetics
  • Genomics and proteomics
  • Microbiome science
  • Evolutionary biology and ecology

Overall, nearly half of the junior researchers who get their training at an IMPRS are from Germany and the other half from around the globe. The main component of the 3-year study program is the doctoral thesis representing a major piece of independent research, chiefly in an interdisciplinary topic. Doctoral scholars also gain from regular workshops, which facilitate exchange of information and provide scholars with the opportunity to see their research topic from dissimilar perspectives. However, supervising tutors at both the institution of higher education and the Max Planck Institutes look after the scholars, coach them and exam them.

Since 2000, the International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) have become a stable part of our struggles to uphold Ph.D. scholars. Gifted German and foreign junior scientists are offered the opportunity to earn a doctorate under excellent research circumstances. A shared characteristic of the graduate programs at Max Planck Institutes is a close teamwork with universities.

Presently, there are 65 IMPRS. The research schools are created by one or numerous Max Planck Institutes. Though, these IMPRS work in close cooperation with institution of higher education and other – sometimes international – research institutions. This provides an extraordinary framework for the graduate scholars to work in, and is a great advantage in interdisciplinary research projects, or in projects that require special equipment. Presently, 80 Max Planck Institutes are connected with an IMPRS.
