The Dishwashing Machine Attendant is responsible for operating and maintaining dishwashing machines to clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment in a timely and efficient manner. This role ensures that all items are properly cleaned, organized, and ready for use, contributing to the smooth operation of the kitchen or dining facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Dishwashing Operations:
    • Operate dishwashing machines to clean and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen equipment according to established procedures.
    • Load and unload dishwashing machines, ensuring that items are placed correctly for optimal cleaning.
    • Monitor the dishwashing process to ensure that all items are thoroughly cleaned and free of residue.
  2. Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of dishwashing machines and related equipment, including checking for and addressing any malfunctions or issues.
    • Clean and sanitize sinks, countertops, and surrounding work areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
    • Dispose of waste materials and food scraps in accordance with safety and sanitation guidelines.
  3. Inventory and Organization:
    • Organize clean dishes, utensils, and equipment in designated storage areas, ensuring they are properly dried and ready for use.
    • Maintain an inventory of dishwashing supplies, such as detergents, sanitizers, and other cleaning agents, and notify management when supplies need to be replenished.
  4. Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and waste.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and adhere to safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
    • Ensure that all dishwashing practices meet sanitation and hygiene standards.
  5. Team Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, servers, and other team members to ensure a smooth flow of dishes and utensils between the kitchen and dining areas.
    • Assist with other kitchen tasks or duties as assigned, including general cleaning or food prep support.
  6. Quality Control:
    • Inspect cleaned items for any signs of leftover food or residue, and rewash items as necessary to ensure cleanliness.
    • Report any issues with dishwashing equipment or processes to the supervisor or maintenance team.

Tasks

  • Bring clean dishes, flatware and other items to serving areas and set tables
  • Carrying and replace linen
  • Clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts and waste disposal units
  • Clear and clean tables, trays and chairs
  • Load buspans and trays
  • Operate dishwashers to wash dishes, glassware and flatware
  • Place dishes in storage area
  • Sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand
  • Scour pots and pans
  • Keep records of the quantities of food used
  • Package take-out food
  • Portion and wrap foods
  • Prepare, heat and finish simple food items
  • Serve customers at counters or buffet tables
  • Stock refrigerators and salad bars
  • Take customers’ orders
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and equipment
  • Handle and store cleaning products
  • Remove kitchen garbage and trash
  • Sweep, mop, wash and polish floors
  • Wash, peel and cut vegetables and fruit

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior experience in a dishwashing or kitchen support role is beneficial but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.

  • Certifications: Food safety certification or other relevant training may be beneficial but is not always required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced kitchen environment and handling hot water and cleaning chemicals.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a kitchen or dining facility, which may involve exposure to heat, steam, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
  • The role may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the facility’s hours of operation.
