Key Responsibilities:
- Hair Cutting and Styling:
- Perform haircuts for clients based on their preferences, including trims, short cuts, long styles, and layered cuts.
- Style hair according to client requests, including blowouts, curling, straightening, braiding, and updos.
- Provide professional advice to clients on the best haircuts and styles that suit their face shape, hair texture, and lifestyle.
- Hair Treatments and Coloring:
- Apply hair color, including highlights, lowlights, full-color treatments, and color corrections, as per client requests.
- Offer treatments such as deep conditioning, hair masks, and scalp treatments for healthier hair.
- Perform perms, relaxers, and other chemical treatments while ensuring client safety and hair health.
- Client Consultation:
- Conduct consultations with clients to understand their hair goals and preferences, and provide expert advice on styling, hair care, and maintenance.
- Recommend and sell hair care products (shampoos, conditioners, styling products) based on individual client needs.
- Educate clients on how to care for and maintain their hair between salon visits.
- Customer Service:
- Create a welcoming and positive environment for clients to ensure they feel comfortable and valued.
- Address client concerns or complaints professionally and work to resolve issues promptly.
- Maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Salon Maintenance:
- Ensure the salon is clean and organized, including sanitizing tools, equipment, and workstations after each client.
- Maintain inventory of hair products, tools, and supplies, and inform management when restocking is necessary.
- Follow health and safety regulations for cleanliness, sanitation, and product use.
- Continual Learning:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest hairstyling trends, techniques, and products by attending training, workshops, and trade shows.
- Continuously improve hairstyling techniques, product knowledge, and customer service skills.
Tasks
- Book appointments
- Cut and trim hair according to client’s instructions or preferences
- Shampoo customers’ hair
- Provide other hair treatment, such as waving, straightening and tinting and also provide scalp conditioning massages
- Apply hair extensions
- Clean and style wigs and hair pieces
- Cut, trim, taper, curl, wave, perm and style hair
- Suggest hair style compatible with client’s physical features and preferences
- Perform receptionist duties
- Maintain and order supplies
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Completion of a state-approved cosmetology program or a beauty school is required.
- A valid cosmetology license (or equivalent) is mandatory in most regions.
- Previous experience as a hairstylist is preferred but not always required for entry-level positions.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in a wide range of hairstyling techniques, including cutting, coloring, and texturizing.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients.
- Strong communication skills to effectively understand and meet client needs.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently, particularly in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks, such as cutting and styling hair.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items such as product containers and salon equipment.
Work Environment:
- Hairstylists typically work in salons, spas, or other beauty establishments. Some hairstylists may also provide mobile services, working at clients’ homes or events.
- The position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on salon hours and client demand.
