The Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing wooden structures and fixtures.  Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Construction and Installation:
    • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
    • Construct, install, and repair wooden structures, such as frameworks, partitions, and cabinets.
    • Build and assemble furniture, fixtures, and other woodwork, ensuring precision and adherence to design specifications.
  2. Measurement and Cutting:
    • Measure, cut, and shape wood and other materials using hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
    • Ensure all measurements and cuts are accurate to meet project specifications and safety standards.
  3. Finishing and Detailing:
    • Sand, stain, and paint surfaces to achieve a smooth and aesthetically pleasing finish.
    • Install hardware such as hinges, handles, and locks, ensuring proper functionality and alignment.
  4. Repairs and Maintenance:
    • Inspect and repair damaged or worn wooden structures and fixtures.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks to keep tools and equipment in good working condition.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and adhere to safety protocols when operating tools and machinery.
  6. Project Management:
    • Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and complete tasks efficiently.
    • Coordinate with other tradespeople and construction professionals to ensure project integration and completion.
  7. Customer Service:
    • Communicate with clients to understand their needs and preferences, providing recommendations and solutions as required.
    • Address any concerns or issues that arise during the project, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Tasks

  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Supervise other workers
  • Estimate costs and materials

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a formal apprenticeship or vocational training in carpentry is preferred. Relevant work experience in carpentry or construction is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings, strong mathematical skills, and the ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely. Attention to detail and craftsmanship are essential.
  • Certifications: A valid driver’s license may be required. Some jurisdictions may require specific carpentry licenses or certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfort with working in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and indoor settings.

Working Conditions:

  • Work may be performed on construction sites, in homes, or commercial buildings.
  • The role may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions depending on the project location.
