Responsibilities:

  1. Site Preparation:
    • Assisting with site preparation by clearing debris, digging trenches, and setting up barricades or temporary structures.
    • Loading and unloading construction materials, tools, and equipment from trucks or storage areas.
  2. Construction Tasks:
    • Performing tasks such as mixing and pouring concrete, digging ditches, and compacting earth.
    • Assisting with the installation of scaffolding, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  3. Material Handling:
    • Transporting materials and equipment to different locations on the construction site using wheelbarrows, hand trucks, or forklifts.
    • Storing and organizing materials to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  4. Assisting Tradespeople:
    • Supporting skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers with their tasks as directed.
    • Holding tools and materials, and operating hand tools under supervision.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Following safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Reporting any safety hazards, incidents, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  6. Cleanup and Maintenance:
    • Removing debris, garbage, and hazardous materials from work areas.
    • Cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment, and construction site areas.
  7. Communication:
    • Communicating effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and contractors regarding work tasks and progress.
    • Following instructions and asking for clarification when needed.

Tasks

  • Load, unload and transport construction materials
  • Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt
  • Clean and pile salvaged materials
  • Perform routine maintenance work
  • Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform tasks that require heavy lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Teamwork: Collaboration with other labourers and tradespeople to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to perform a variety of tasks and adapt to changing work conditions.
  • Safety Awareness: Understanding of construction site hazards and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Basic Construction Knowledge: Familiarity with construction tools, materials, and methods is an asset.
  • Reliability: Dependability in attendance and punctuality to ensure work schedules are met.
