A Farm Worker is involved in the daily hands-on tasks necessary to maintain the farm’s operations. These workers assist with planting, cultivating, harvesting crops, and caring for livestock, as well as performing maintenance and repair tasks around the farm. Farm workers play a critical role in the smooth operation of farms by helping ensure that crops and animals are well cared for and that all farming equipment is functioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planting and Harvesting Crops: Help plant, sow, or transplant crops, and assist with harvesting them when they’re ready. This includes activities like picking fruits or vegetables, digging up root crops, or cutting down plants.
  • Livestock Care: Feed, water, and monitor the health of farm animals. Farm workers may be responsible for cleaning animal pens or barns, handling animals, and ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Maintenance of Tools and Equipment: Perform routine maintenance on farming tools and equipment, such as tractors, plows, and irrigation systems. This can include sharpening blades, cleaning machines, or reporting malfunctions to supervisors.
  • Weeding and Pest Control: Remove weeds from fields, flower beds, or vegetable gardens and apply pesticides or other treatments (under supervision) to protect crops from insects, rodents, or diseases.
  • Irrigation Management: Assist with the setup, monitoring, and maintenance of irrigation systems to ensure crops are watered properly. This includes checking pipes, pumps, and sprinklers.
  • General Farm Maintenance: Keep farm structures, fences, and fields in good condition. This includes cleaning and repairing buildings, maintaining pathways, and checking fencing for damage.
  • Record Keeping: Some farm workers may help maintain records of planting schedules, harvest yields, livestock health, and other farm-related activities.
  • General Support: Provide support in other farming activities, such as moving materials, harvesting, or helping supervisors and other workers as needed.
