Responsibilities:
- Crop Maintenance:
- Planting, pruning, and thinning fruit trees or bushes to promote healthy growth and maximize yield.
- Monitoring and controlling pests, diseases, and weeds through integrated pest management practices.
- Irrigation and Fertilization:
- Operating irrigation systems to water fruit crops based on soil moisture levels and weather conditions.
- Applying fertilizers and nutrients to promote plant growth and fruit development according to seasonal requirements.
- Harvesting:
- Harvesting fruits at peak ripeness using hand tools, ladders, or mechanical harvesting equipment.
- Sorting and grading harvested fruits based on size, color, and quality standards.
- Packaging and Storage:
- Packing fruits into containers, crates, or packaging materials for transportation or sale.
- Labeling containers with accurate information and ensuring proper storage conditions to maintain freshness.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operating and maintaining farm equipment and machinery, such as tractors, harvesters, pruning tools, and sprayers.
- Performing routine maintenance checks, lubrication, and minor repairs to ensure equipment functionality.
- Quality Control:
- Inspecting fruits for defects, damage, or irregularities and removing unsuitable produce.
- Following food safety guidelines and handling procedures to maintain product quality and hygiene standards.
- Record-Keeping:
- Keeping accurate records of daily activities, including planting dates, harvest yields, pesticide applications, and maintenance tasks.
- Reporting data to farm managers or supervisors for analysis and decision-making.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhering to farm safety regulations and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling practices.
- Following agricultural and environmental regulations related to pesticide use, waste disposal, and land stewardship.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and prolonged periods of outdoor work.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in handling and sorting fruits to meet quality standards and customer expectations.
