The General Farm Worker – Livestock is responsible for assisting with the daily care and management of livestock on a farm. This role involves performing a variety of tasks related to animal husbandry, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring the health and welfare of animals. The worker will also assist with other farm activities as needed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the farm operation.

 Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Animal Care:
    • Feed and water livestock according to established schedules and nutritional guidelines.
    • Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any signs of illness or distress to the farm manager or veterinarian.
    • Assist with the administration of medications or treatments as directed.
  2. Housing and Cleanliness:
    • Clean and maintain animal housing facilities, including stalls, pens, and barns.
    • Ensure bedding is clean and replaced regularly to maintain a sanitary and comfortable environment for the animals.
    • Manage and dispose of waste materials in accordance with farm policies and environmental regulations.
  3. Handling and Movement:
    • Assist with the safe handling and movement of livestock for various purposes, including feeding, medical treatment, and transportation.
    • Ensure proper use of equipment and techniques to minimize stress and injury to animals.
  4. Feeding and Nutrition:
    • Prepare and distribute feed and supplements according to dietary needs and farm protocols.
    • Maintain accurate records of feeding schedules and any changes to animal diets.
  5. General Farm Duties:
    • Assist with other farm tasks as needed, such as planting, harvesting, or equipment maintenance.
    • Support farm operations by helping with the maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  6. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
    • Follow biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of disease and contamination.
  7. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and other relevant data.
    • Report any unusual observations or incidents to the farm manager.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience working with livestock or in a farming environment is desirable but not required.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Comfort with working around livestock and handling equipment is necessary.
