Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans that promote cognitive, social, and physical development in accordance with curriculum guidelines.
- Create a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for children, fostering positive relationships with each child.
- Supervise and engage children during playtime, group activities, and individual tasks, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Monitor children’s progress and provide regular feedback to parents/guardians regarding their development.
- Facilitate and encourage positive social interactions among children, helping them develop communication and teamwork skills.
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks, promoting healthy eating habits.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the classroom and play areas, ensuring all materials and supplies are available and in good condition.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a cohesive and supportive environment for children and families.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and daycare policies, including emergency procedures.
Tasks
- Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers
- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Storytelling
- Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers
- Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
- Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest
- Order supplies and equipment
- Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records
- Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
- Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts
- Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
- Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
- Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors
- Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings
- Knowledge of licensing regulations
- Establish guidelines for behaviour
- Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
- Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants

Credentials
Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
- Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate
- Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Certificate
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred; an Associate’s degree or relevant certification may be acceptable.
- Previous experience working with young children in a daycare or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a daycare environment, which may involve standing for long periods and engaging in physical activities with children.
- May require lifting children and equipment and responding to emergencies.
