Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements and dimensions.
- Framework Construction: Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, steel, and other materials, including walls, floors, and roofs.
- Measurement and Layout: Accurately measure and cut materials to the appropriate lengths and angles, ensuring precise fit and alignment.
- Use of Tools: Operate a variety of hand tools and power tools safely and effectively, including saws, drills, nail guns, and levels.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other construction professionals, such as electricians, plumbers, and other carpenters, to coordinate efforts and ensure timely project completion.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect work for quality and adherence to building codes and regulations, making adjustments as necessary.
- Job Site Maintenance: Keep the work area organized and clean, ensuring tools and materials are stored safely and securely.
Tasks
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
- Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
- Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in carpentry or construction is a plus.
- Experience: Previous experience in framing or carpentry is preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and building codes; excellent problem-solving skills; attention to detail.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
