Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation of Goods: Safely operate and drive trucks to deliver goods to various destinations, following scheduled routes.
  • Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance: Perform routine inspections of the vehicle, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and ensuring the truck meets all safety and maintenance standards.
  • Cargo Handling: Securely load and unload goods when required, ensuring proper stacking and securing to prevent damage during transit.
  • Route Planning: Determine the best routes using maps or GPS systems, considering efficiency, fuel use, and potential obstacles like construction or road restrictions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, fuel consumption, driving hours, and any incidents or accidents. Complete logs according to regulatory requirements.
  • Communication: Coordinate with dispatchers, warehouse staff, and customers, providing updates on delivery times, potential delays, and issues.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to all local, state, and federal driving regulations, including hours-of-service limits, and follow company policies.

Tasks

  • Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
  • Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
  • Load and unload goods
  • Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Pay and receive payments for goods
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Perform preventive maintenance
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
  • Transport and handle dangerous goods
