A live-in caregiver (child care) is someone who lives in the employer’s home and provides care for children on a full-time basis. Duties and requirements vary by country and employer, but generally include the following:

Responsibilities
Tasks
- Assume full responsibility for household in absence of parents
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties
- Travel with family on trips and assist with child supervision and housekeeping duties
- Bathe, dress and feed infants and children
- Discipline children according to the methods requested by the parents
- Instruct children in personal hygiene and social development
- Keep records of daily activities and health information regarding children
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home
- Organize, activities such as games and outings for children
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals
- Tend to emotional well-being of children
- Help children with homework
- Administer first-aid and other assistance
- Assist clients/guests with special needs

Child Care Duties
- Supervising and ensuring children’s safety.
- Feeding infants and children, preparing meals and snacks.
- Bathing, dressing, and helping with personal hygiene.
- Organizing educational and recreational activities.
- Helping with homework and school-related tasks.
- Taking children to and from school, appointments, or activities.
- Maintaining children’s daily routines, including naps and bedtime.
- Performing light housekeeping related to the children (laundry, tidying play areas, washing bottles, etc.).
Common Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (sometimes preferred or required).
- Experience caring for children, either professionally or personally.
- First Aid and CPR certification (often preferred).
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends if needed.
- Clean background check or police clearance.
- Physical ability to care for children and perform related household tasks.
- Knowledge of child development and safety practices.
