Key Responsibilities:
- Transportation:
- Operate a long haul truck to transport goods from one location to another, often over long distances.
- Plan and follow routes to ensure timely delivery, considering factors such as road conditions, traffic, and weather.
- Adhere to delivery schedules and deadlines while ensuring compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, including checking fluid levels, brakes, tires, and lights.
- Report any mechanical issues or damage to the vehicle and arrange for repairs as needed.
- Ensure the truck is clean and properly maintained, both inside and out.
- Cargo Handling:
- Load and unload cargo safely and efficiently, ensuring that it is secured properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Verify cargo documentation and ensure that all shipments are accounted for and match delivery orders.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all federal, state, and local regulations regarding transportation, including weight limits, hazardous materials handling, and driving hours.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures related to safety and security.
- Maintain accurate records of driving hours, mileage, and fuel consumption.
- Customer Service:
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other stakeholders regarding delivery status and any issues encountered.
- Handle delivery-related paperwork, such as bills of lading and delivery receipts, and obtain signatures as required.
- Address and resolve any customer concerns or issues professionally.
- Navigation:
- Use GPS and maps to navigate routes and make adjustments as needed.
- Stay informed about road conditions, construction, and other factors that may affect travel.
Tasks
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Professionalism in customer service
- Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
- Perform brake adjustments
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
- Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo

- Air Brakes Endorsement
- Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi trailer trucks)
- Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)

Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience as a truck driver, particularly in long-haul operations, is preferred.
- Skills:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for the type of vehicle operated.
- Strong driving skills with a clean driving record.
- Ability to handle and maneuver large vehicles in various conditions.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Certifications: CDL is mandatory; additional certifications for transporting specific types of cargo (e.g., hazardous materials) may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Extended periods of driving, often including overnight stays away from home.
- Long hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on delivery schedules.
- Physical demands include sitting for long periods, loading and unloading cargo, and performing vehicle inspections.
