Key Responsibilities:
- Childcare and Supervision: Provide daily care and supervision of children, ensuring their safety, happiness, and emotional well-being. This includes feeding, dressing, and assisting with hygiene.
- Educational Activities: Plan and engage in age-appropriate educational and recreational activities, including arts and crafts, reading, playing, and outings that encourage learning and development.
- Household Assistance: Some nannies may assist with light housekeeping duties, such as preparing meals for the children, cleaning up after activities, doing the children’s laundry, and keeping play areas organized.
- Transportation: Provide transportation for the children to and from activities like school, daycare, extracurriculars, or appointments. This may require driving or walking the children to these locations.
- Health and Wellness: Administer medications, if needed, and assist with health-related matters like scheduling and attending doctor’s appointments, managing dietary needs, or helping children with illnesses or injuries.
- Behavior Management: Support positive behavioral development by setting boundaries, helping with discipline, and encouraging good behavior in line with the family’s expectations.
- Communication with Parents: Regularly update parents on the children’s activities, behavior, and development, and follow any instructions or routines set by the parents.
- Sleep and Routine Assistance: Help establish and maintain daily routines, including meal times, naps, and bedtime. This may involve helping with sleep training for younger children.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Childcare Experience: Previous experience with children, whether through formal nanny work, babysitting, or other childcare roles, is essential.
- First Aid/CPR Certification: Many parents require nannies to be certified in infant/child CPR and basic first aid in case of emergencies.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication is important to maintain a positive relationship with both the children and the parents, ensuring clarity in instructions and feedback.
- Patience and Flexibility: Children can be unpredictable, so a nanny needs to have patience and be able to adapt to changing situations while staying calm and positive.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address challenges related to child behavior, schedules, or other unexpected issues with creativity and resourcefulness.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage schedules, handle multiple tasks, and keep track of the children’s needs, appointments, and activities.
- Trustworthiness and Reliability: Nannies are entrusted with the safety and well-being of children, so being dependable and trustworthy is key.
Education:
- High School Diploma: A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required. However, additional qualifications such as college courses in early childhood education or child development can be advantageous.
- Specialized Training: Some nannies may choose to pursue certifications in child development, CPR/First Aid, or early childhood education.
