Key Responsibilities:
- Safely Operate Truck: Drive and operate a transport truck in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure the truck is in good working condition and perform regular pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Deliver Goods: Transport goods to and from specified locations according to delivery schedules. Ensure timely and accurate delivery while adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Load and Unload Cargo: Assist with loading and unloading cargo as required. Ensure that goods are properly secured and handled to prevent damage.
- Maintain Documentation: Complete and maintain accurate records, including delivery logs, inspection reports, and fuel usage. Verify delivery paperwork and obtain signatures as needed.
- Follow Routes and Schedules: Plan routes and adjust schedules as needed to accommodate traffic conditions, road closures, and other unforeseen circumstances.
- Communicate Effectively: Maintain regular communication with dispatch and other team members to provide updates on delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Adhere to Safety Procedures: Follow all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment. Report any accidents, vehicle malfunctions, or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Tasks
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Professionalism in customer service
- Drive lighter, special purpose trucks
- Load and unload goods
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
- Perform emergency roadside repairs
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Required, with a clean driving record and experience operating transport trucks.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Basic education or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Previous experience as a truck driver or in a similar role is preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and move heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks as necessary.
- Good Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and team members.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for managing delivery schedules and maintaining accurate records.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of Vehicle Maintenance: Basic understanding of truck maintenance and repair.
- Navigation Skills: Familiarity with GPS systems and map reading.
Working Conditions:
- Travel: Requires long hours on the road and occasional overnight stays.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry heavy items and operate a truck for extended periods.
