The Mechanic Helper assists experienced mechanics with the maintenance and repair of vehicles and machinery. This role involves performing basic tasks under supervision, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring tools and equipment are ready for use.

 Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting with Repairs:
    • Support mechanics in diagnosing and repairing vehicle and machinery issues.
    • Perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing oil, replacing filters, and checking fluid levels.
    • Assist with the removal and installation of parts and components.
  2. Tool and Equipment Management:
    • Gather and organize tools and equipment needed for repairs and maintenance tasks.
    • Ensure all tools are clean, properly maintained, and stored in designated locations.
    • Assist with the setup and operation of diagnostic and repair equipment.
  3. Vehicle and Machinery Maintenance:
    • Help in the inspection and servicing of vehicles and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as tire rotations, brake inspections, and battery checks.
  4. Workspace Organization:
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping floors, disposing of waste materials, and keeping tools and parts organized.
    • Ensure safety protocols are followed to prevent accidents and injuries.
  5. Inventory Management:
    • Assist with managing inventory of parts and supplies, including restocking as necessary.
    • Report inventory shortages or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor or lead mechanic.
  6. Customer Service:
    • Communicate effectively with customers when necessary, providing basic information about services and repairs.
    • Ensure customer vehicles and machinery are handled with care and returned in a clean condition.
  7. Compliance and Safety:
    • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Follow proper protocols for handling hazardous materials and waste.
  8. Learning and Development:
    • Participate in training and development opportunities to gain knowledge and skills in vehicle and machinery repair.
    • Stay updated on the latest repair techniques and industry practices.

  • Help tradespersons, apprentices and other workers as directed
  • Clean machines and immediate work areas

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a mechanical or automotive repair environment is advantageous but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of vehicle and machinery components.
    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
    • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Certifications: No specific certifications required; vocational training or certifications in automotive technology is a plus.

  • Work is performed in a workshop or garage environment, which may involve exposure to noise, dust, and various chemicals.
  • Physical demands include lifting heavy parts, standing for extended periods, and working in potentially uncomfortable positions.
