Key Responsibilities:

  1. Masonry Construction:
    • Lay bricks, blocks, and other materials according to specifications and blueprints.
    • Construct walls, arches, and other structures, ensuring proper alignment and level.
  2. Surface Preparation:
    • Prepare surfaces for masonry work by cleaning and leveling.
    • Mix mortar and other materials to the appropriate consistency for use.
  3. Repair and Maintenance:
    • Repair and restore existing brickwork and masonry structures.
    • Replace damaged bricks and blocks as necessary.
  4. Blueprint Interpretation:
    • Read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and specifications.
    • Determine the necessary materials and quantities needed for projects.
  5. Quality Control:
    • Ensure all work meets local building codes and safety regulations.
    • Perform regular inspections of completed work for quality assurance.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other construction professionals, including carpenters and general laborers.
    • Communicate effectively with site supervisors and project managers regarding progress and challenges.
  7. Safety Compliance:
    • Follow safety protocols and regulations at all times to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Tasks

  • Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, structural tiles or other masonry units
  • Lay bricks, stone or similar materials to provide veneer facing
  • Construct and install prefabricated masonry units
  • Cut and trim bricks and concrete blocks to specification using hand and power tools
  • Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces
  • Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks

Qualifications:
