As a Kitchen Helper, you will assist in the preparation and service of food items in our kitchen. Your primary responsibilities include basic food preparation, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and supporting kitchen staff in various tasks to ensure efficient operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation: Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting, and chopping ingredients. Measure and portion ingredients according to recipes or instructions from kitchen staff.
  2. Dishwashing and Cleaning: Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas. Ensure cleanliness and organization of kitchen surfaces, storage areas, and refrigerators.
  3. Stocking and Inventory: Receive and store food supplies and ingredients. Monitor inventory levels and alert kitchen staff when supplies are low. Assist in rotating stock and checking expiration dates.
  4. Assistance to Cooks and Chefs: Support cooks and chefs during food preparation and service. Fetch and carry ingredients, utensils, and equipment as needed. Assist in plating dishes and ensuring they meet presentation standards.
  5. Trash Removal: Dispose of garbage and recycling properly. Maintain cleanliness of trash bins and storage areas.
  6. Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Follow proper food handling procedures and sanitation guidelines. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment.
  7. Assistance in Other Tasks: Assist kitchen staff with additional tasks as needed, such as setting up serving stations, restocking buffet lines, and assisting with special events or catering orders.

Tasks

  • Bring clean dishes, flatware and other items to serving areas and set tables
  • Clean and sanitize items such as dishwasher mats, carts and waste disposal units
  • Clear and clean tables, trays and chairs
  • Replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and serving areas
  • Package take-out food
  • Take customers’ orders
  • Use manual and electrical appliances to clean, peel, slice and trim foodstuffs
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and equipment
  • Handle and store cleaning products
  • Receive, unpack and store supplies in refrigerators, freezers, cupboards and other storage areas
  • Remove kitchen garbage and trash
  • Sweep, mop, wash and polish floors
  • Wash, peel and cut vegetables and fruit

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
