The Light Duty Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in various areas of the facility, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for staff, visitors, and clients. This role involves performing basic cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and taking care of office or public spaces.

 Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Sanitizing:

    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.

    • Dust and wipe down furniture, equipment, and surfaces.

    • Clean windows, glass surfaces, mirrors, and other areas as required.

  • Restroom Maintenance:

    • Clean and disinfect restrooms, ensuring that all fixtures (toilets, sinks, counters) are spotless.

    • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and sanitary products.

  • Trash Removal:

    • Empty trash cans and dispose of waste in the appropriate containers.

    • Replace liners in trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of recyclable materials.

  • General Maintenance:

    • Clean and maintain break rooms, kitchens, and common areas.

    • Organize cleaning supplies and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.

  • Spot Cleaning:

    • Perform spot cleaning on carpets, walls, and other areas that may become dirty or stained throughout the day.

    • Report any maintenance issues, like broken fixtures or damage to the property, to the supervisor.

  • Compliance with Health & Safety Regulations:

    • Follow proper cleaning procedures and safety guidelines.

    • Use cleaning products and equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    • Maintain a safe and clean environment for staff and visitors by keeping areas free of hazards.

  • Support Other Cleaning Teams:

    • Assist in cleaning special areas or tasks as needed, such as during deep cleaning or before special events.

    • Work as part of a team to ensure the entire facility is properly cleaned.

Tasks

  • Sweep, mop, wash and polish floors
  • Dust furniture
  • Vacuum carpeting, area rugs, draperies and upholstered furniture
  • Disinfect operating rooms and other areas
  • Handle and report lost and found items
  • Provide basic information on facilities
  • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties
  • Wash windows, walls and ceilings
  • Address customers’ complaints or concerns

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in cleaning or custodial work is helpful but not required.

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, and techniques.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot areas that need cleaning.

  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cleaning equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.

  • Familiarity with health and safety standards in cleaning procedures.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of green cleaning methods and eco-friendly cleaning products.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry cleaning supplies or equipment (up to 30 lbs).

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, standing, walking, and reaching.

  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including offices, kitchens, and restrooms.

Work Environment:

  • The role is primarily performed indoors in office, commercial, or institutional settings.

  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and materials.

  • Interaction with other staff members and occasional contact with the public.
