Key Responsibilities:
- Laundry Processing:
- Operate washing machines and dryers to clean and dry laundry items according to specified instructions and load capacities.
- Sort and categorize laundry items by type, color, and fabric to prevent damage and ensure proper cleaning.
- Use appropriate detergents, fabric softeners, and other cleaning agents as required.
- Folding and Organizing:
- Fold, hang, or package clean laundry items neatly and efficiently.
- Ensure that items are returned to their proper location or delivered to the appropriate department or client.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laundry machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Report any malfunctions or issues with equipment to the maintenance department or supervisor.
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor and manage laundry supplies, including detergents, fabric softeners, and cleaning agents.
- Notify the supervisor when supplies are running low and need to be replenished.
- Safety and Cleanliness:
- Maintain a clean and organized laundry area, including disposing of waste materials and managing laundry bins or carts.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to handle cleaning agents and equipment safely.
- Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing any specific requests or concerns from clients or guests.
- Handle any issues or discrepancies with laundry items promptly and professionally.
- Record Keeping:
- Maintain records of laundry processing, including the number of items processed and any special instructions or notes.
- Track and document any lost or damaged items and report them to the supervisor.
Tasks
- Operate dry-cleaning and washing machines, dryers and blow-drying machines
- Operate dryers and blow-drying machines
- Mix and add detergents, dyes, bleaches, starches and other solutions and chemicals
- Hand fold and bag shirts, sheets and other articles
- Hand iron laundered fine linens or dry-cleaned silk garments
- Operate finishing equipment such as steam pressers, and use hand irons to finish pants, jackets, shirts, skirts and other dry cleaned and laundered articles
- Assemble and bag finished articles
- Check finished dry-cleaned or laundered articles to ensure that establishment standards are met
- Match invoices or tags with dry-cleaned or laundered articles
- Record damage or improper cleaning or laundering of articles
- Use hand-held steam iron to touch up finished garments and other articles
- Provide customer service
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; previous experience in a laundry or cleaning role is desirable but not required.
- Skills: Ability to operate laundry machines and equipment effectively, strong attention to detail, and good organizational skills. Basic understanding of laundry care and fabric types is beneficial.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy items, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks related to laundry processing.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed in a laundry facility, which may include exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
- The role may involve working various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the facility’s operating hours.
