Key Responsibilities:
1. Farm Operations Management:
- Crop Management: Plan, plant, manage, and harvest crops according to seasonal schedules. Monitor soil health, irrigation systems, pest control, and overall crop productivity.
- Livestock Management: Oversee the care of animals (if applicable), including feeding, health checks, breeding, and maintaining proper living conditions.
- Sustainability Practices: Implement environmentally sustainable farming practices, such as crop rotation, integrated pest management, and soil conservation.
- Equipment Management: Ensure all farm equipment (tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, etc.) is properly maintained, repaired, and used efficiently.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee maintenance of farm infrastructure, including buildings, fencing, roads, irrigation systems, and storage facilities.
2. Staff Management:
- Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers. Assign tasks, set expectations, and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Scheduling: Create and manage work schedules for farm laborers, ensuring adequate coverage during peak seasons.
- Health and Safety: Ensure that the farm complies with health and safety regulations, including providing safety training and ensuring the proper use of equipment and protective gear.
3. Financial and Budget Management:
- Budget Planning: Develop and manage the farm’s annual budget, including labor costs, materials, equipment maintenance, and operational expenses.
- Resource Allocation: Ensure efficient use of resources (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, feed, water, etc.), minimizing waste and maximizing output.
- Profitability: Monitor production costs, sales, and profits, adjusting operations as necessary to improve financial performance.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of crop yields, livestock health, inventory, and financial transactions.
4. Marketing and Sales:
- Market Research: Stay informed on agricultural trends and market demand for crops or livestock. Adjust farming operations based on market needs.
- Sales: Develop relationships with buyers, wholesalers, or distributors. Oversee the sale and distribution of farm products, ensuring quality control and timely delivery.
- Branding and Outreach: Promote the farm’s products, including through local markets, direct-to-consumer sales, or farm tours/events.
5. Compliance and Regulations:
- Legal Compliance: Ensure the farm complies with local, state, and federal agricultural regulations (e.g., pesticide use, animal welfare standards, labor laws).
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental standards, including water usage, waste disposal, and sustainability efforts.
- Certifications: If applicable, manage certifications (e.g., organic, fair trade) and ensure proper documentation is in place.
6. Technology Integration:
- Farm Management Software: Use farm management software to track production, inventory, labor, and finances. Integrate new technologies that improve efficiency or output.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data from soil sensors, weather reports, crop yields, and other sources to optimize decision-making and improve farm operations.

Education and Experience:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Animal Science, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Alternatively, significant hands-on experience in farm management or a related field may substitute for formal education.
- Experience:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in farm management or a related agricultural role, with proven success in managing operations, staff, and financials.
- Experience with livestock (if applicable) and crop farming is essential.
- Experience with farm equipment operation, maintenance, and repair is highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
- Work Environment: Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including seasonal extremes (heat, cold, rain).
- Schedule: Full-time position; work may involve long hours, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons (planting, harvest, etc.).
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods. Some administrative work is also required.
- Travel: Occasional travel to markets, suppliers, or other farms may be required.
