The Courier Van Driver is responsible for delivering packages and goods to customers within a designated area in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. This role involves managing delivery schedules, ensuring the accuracy of deliveries, and maintaining the condition of the delivery vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Delivery Operations:
    • Drive a company van to deliver packages and goods to residential and commercial addresses.
    • Plan and follow the most efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries.
    • Load, unload, and secure packages in the van to prevent damage during transit.
  2. Customer Service:
    • Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally with customers during deliveries.
    • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, or issues with a positive attitude and resolve them as needed.
    • Obtain delivery signatures or confirmation as required.
  3. Vehicle Maintenance:
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the delivery van to ensure it is in good working condition.
    • Report any vehicle maintenance issues or accidents to the appropriate personnel immediately.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the delivery van.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Accurately complete and submit delivery logs, manifests, or other required paperwork.
    • Track and report any delivery delays, issues, or discrepancies.
    • Maintain accurate records of delivery times and locations.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies while driving.
    • Follow safety protocols to ensure the safe handling and delivery of packages.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  6. Inventory and Package Handling:
    • Verify packages against delivery manifests or invoices to ensure accuracy.
    • Handle packages with care to prevent damage and ensure they are delivered in the condition they were received.
    • Assist with the sorting and organizing of packages at the depot or warehouse.
  7. Communication:
    • Maintain clear communication with the dispatch team regarding delivery progress, route changes, or any issues encountered.
    • Report any unusual circumstances or potential risks to the supervisor.

Tasks

  • Deliver and pick up messages, parcels, and other items by hand
  • Operate and drive automobiles, vans and light trucks to pick up and deliver various items and products
  • Professionalism in customer service
  • Accept payment or invoices for items delivered
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Keep a record of items received and delivered
  • Prepare, package and restock goods
  • Load and unload goods
  • Sort packages for delivery
  • Follow directions and read map
  • Use maps and other trip planning aids
  • Record trip information such as vehicle mileage, fuel costs and any problems
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL may be required for larger vehicles.
  • Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Good knowledge of local roads and traffic patterns.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry packages weighing up to [insert weight] pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with route planning and navigation systems.
  • Familiarity with delivery management software or handheld devices.
  • Certification in defensive driving or transportation safety.

Work Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.
