Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising Farm Workers: Oversee the activities of farm workers, including planting, harvesting, caring for livestock, and maintaining equipment. Provide direction, training, and leadership to ensure workers perform tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Crop Management: Oversee planting, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting of crops. Ensure proper agricultural practices are followed for optimal crop production.
  • Livestock Management: If applicable, supervise the care of farm animals, including feeding, health monitoring, breeding, and record-keeping. Ensure livestock are well cared for and free from disease or injury.
  • Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Ensure that farm equipment, such as tractors, plows, irrigation systems, and tools, are in working order. Coordinate repairs and routine maintenance as needed.
  • Inventory and Supply Management: Maintain inventory of supplies such as seeds, fertilizers, feed, tools, and equipment. Ensure the timely procurement of these supplies to avoid shortages.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all workers are following safety regulations, wear proper protective gear, and handle machinery and chemicals safely. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding environmental and health standards.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Help with creating and managing the farm’s budget. This may involve keeping track of expenses related to labor, equipment, feed, seeds, and other operational costs.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records of planting schedules, harvest yields, livestock health, pesticide applications, and financial transactions. Ensure all necessary reports are up to date and accurate.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision Making: Address any issues that arise on the farm, such as equipment malfunctions, poor crop yields, animal health issues, or labor shortages, and work to find solutions.
  • Communication: Act as the main point of contact between the farm owner and farm workers. You may also be responsible for communicating with vendors, customers, suppliers, or regulatory bodies.
